Long Term Rockin P Fosters

Organized by Rockin P Boxer Rescue

Rockin P Long Termers
Occasionally we come across a special boxer who needs us. They are the ones nobody wants. They are either old or have debilitating medical problems. There is nothing wrong with these guys; they just need an extra special home that will understand their needs. They need us so we are there for them whether its a senior needing a home to spend their golden years or a blind or deaf dog who just needs someone to understand them... they all deserve the second chance rescue provides.

Even if you can not open your home to one of these boxer babies, please consider sponsoring them as they remain in foster care for many months to even years. All fosters are kept as long as necessary or until God calls them home.
Spike
Spike recently celebrated his 1stbirthday in rescue. But he didn't seem to mind as he was born in rescue. His momma, Dani, came to us from a breeder who accidentally let their deaf female breed with one of their studs. They didn't want deaf pups so they gave her to us. If they had known, they would have known that the odds of them being deaf were not high.

When Spike was born, Dani knew there was something wrong with Spike so she refused to feedhim. Luckily his foster family took the initiative to bottle feed him until he was able to eat on his own. Spike was born with an indentation on the top of his head. As he grew, we learned that he isa bit mentally challenged and prone to seizures which explained his lack of coordination and problems with house breaking.

Our vet told us that he wasn’t doing verywell with his potty training because his brain doesn’t tell his kidneysto concentrate his urine so he must potty more frequently to remove all the waste. He can and does take a medication called desmopressin whichcost $80.00 a month and it helps him with this problem. He tries really hard when he realizesthat he has to go potty but doesn’t always make it to the door. He looksreally sorry when he makes a mistake.
His seizures are undercontrol with phenobarbital twice a day which costs $15.00 per month.

He is a small boy at only about 38 lbsand eats a special food which is grain free and it cost about $58.00 per month. We learned that a grain free diet helps with seizures. Sometimes whenhe gets stressed he will have a small one. He shakes it off and continues onabout his business-he is always getting into some kind of mischief.

He loves his other foster brothers and sisters big and small. He loves to snuggle on the futon with them and loves to follow his foster mom around the house. We would love him to have a loving home where he gets a lot of attention. We realize that Spike will require a very special home but it is out their somewhere. Until then he has a home with his foster family. All fosters are kept in foster care until they find a home. If you are unable to adopt a special needs boy like Spike, please consider sponsoring his monthly expenses.

Kory
Kory has been with the rescue on and off for 2-3 years now. He came to us with the worst knees ever. His knee caps were on the outside of his joints. Given his condition and how skinny he was it was thought he was left in kennel for too long that was entirely too small for him. Kory went through several expensive surgeries to fix his knees along with rehab and swim therapy.

Kory found a great home; however, had to be given back up to the rescue due to uncontrollable separation anxiety. He came back to us after eating a rope and needing 2 exploratory surgeries to fix them.

Kory is as happy and healthy as ever. He loves his foster brothers and sisters and he loves to play. He is a little mischief maker and can open all kinds of drawers and cabinets too.

Kory has been with us for some time and his monthly expenses are around $75 for food, monthly preventions, and supplements for his joints.
Bullet
Bullet is a beautiful older male boxer that turned 9 in May. He spent most of his life out on a chain but is enjoying the high life of being indoors. He gets along with everyone. Bullet is a huge scaredy cat and is afraid of just about any noise from a book shutting to thunder.

Bullet has been in foster care now for nearly 2 years. He originally went through heart worm treatment along with the typical medical all of our fosters receive.

Bullet's monthly expenses are around $65 for his food and monthly preventions.

Scooby
Scooby came to us from a family who could no longer have their boxer due to a move to Colorado. He was posted all over the internet free to a good home as long as he would be bred. They had no concern for his well being.

Our volunteers stepped in when they saw the situation. Scooby wasn't any boxer- he was a gorgeous, blind, large boxer boy in the middle of nowhere.

We drove the 100+ miles to go get him and he was much more stunning in person. His story was also that much worse.

It turns out Scooby was shot in the face multiple times because he went after the neighbors chickens. They did not take him to a vet to have it treated despite what we were told. We called every vet within 30 miles of where they lived.

Not only was he shot, they tied him to a tree now blind. He was never given the ability to adjust to life without sight. He was underweight, had a mass the size of a golf ball on his back, and was also cryptoichid. At that age, it can become cancerous.

We took him to Dr H and had him fixed up. Unfortunately, the damage in his eyes was too far gone that there was nothing that could be done. He was neutered, had the mass removed, and of course treated for heart worms.

Scooby has been in his foster home since around the 1st of December. He is a healthy happy boy who enjoys a good belly rub, a nap on the couch, and of course a good boxing match with his foster siblings. Yes, even at 90 lbs and blind he is an excellent "boxer."

Scooby's original vet care was approximately $500. He is on the standard heart worm prevention, fish oil, and glucosamine. His expenses run around $60-$65 per month while he waits for that special home to call his own.
